Race, IQ, and Poverty

(This post was co-written with John Macintyre) Summary: In this post, I am going to look at how well differences in socio-economic status can explain racial IQ differences. First, we will see that affluent Blacks score lower than poorer Whites and Asians on tests of cognitive ability. Second, it will be seen that the Black/White IQ gap is highest among the rich and lowest among the poor. Third, it will be shown that the Black/White SES gap has fallen dramatically over the last 100 years while the Black/White IQ gap has not. And finally, it will be seen that most …

Racial Discrimination in Loans

Racial differences in the ability to acquire a loan are sometimes pointed to as evidence of White privilege. These differences are said to lead to racial disparities in home ownership rates and entrepreneurship which in turn have a variety of long-term economic and social consequences. Though this story is often repeated, it is not justified by the relevant empirical evidence. The idea that Whites get loans easily due to White privilege is not consistent with the fact that Asians can get loans just as easily as Whites can.

A Short History of the Third Millennium

Fundamentally solve the “intelligence problem,” and all other problems become trivial. The problem is that this problem is a very hard one, and our native wit is unlikely to suffice. Moreover, because problems tend to get harder, not easier, as you advance up the technological ladder in a “business as usual” scenario with no substantial intelligence augmentation we will effectively only have a 100-200 year “window” to effect this breakthrough before global dysgenic fertility patterns rule it out entirely for a large part of the next millennium. To avoid a period of prolonged technological and scientific stagnation, with its attendant …

The Real Obama Legacy, Part 3: Race Relations

Obama was voted into office on the promise of “Hope and Change,” and chief among the many hopes for many voters was that there would be a dramatic improvement in race relations. This did not occur. In fact, Gallup polls showing historical trends found that racial attitudes for both Blacks and Whites were substantially worse after nearly 8 years of Obama than prior to that. Importantly, the dropoff really began in 2013, after Obama’s reelection.

Colonialism did not Make Africa Poor

Africa is a big place with a lot of history, but is treated as a single entity in modern political discussions. Before going over the charts, consider this: In 1950, the continent of Africa (including North Africa) had a population of 230 million. In 2015, that number had increased to 1,166 million (1.166 billion). This is a quintupling of the population. Is Europe directly responsible for that? Did they pay Africans to overbreed? This, the most important factor in Africa’s standard of living, is simply not mentioned.

Somebody’s Spreading the STDs

I was standing in the express line (twelve items or less) at Food Lion, one of the South’s low to mid-tier grocery chains. I prefer Food Lion over Kroger and Whole Foods because it’s genuinely quicker to get in and out when running errands – the bourgeois and intolerable SWPLs and organic-only non-GMO fanatics swarm the two stores and make the experience more than unpleasant. There is a tradeoff for shopping at Food Lion though, you’ll experience a mixed (and colorful) bag of humanity. On one hand, you’ve got your salt of the Earth – country folks, rednecks and blue-collar …

Blacks and Whites with Equal Educational Attainment Differ in Cognitive Ability

Black and White Americans with the same formal level of education differ significantly in their cognitive abilities. Specifically, within any given level of formal education Whites consistently outperform Blacks. Moreover, this effect is so strong that Blacks often underperform Whites who have lower levels of formal education than they do. Consider the following data from the General Social Survey. This public data is frequently used in social science research and contains a test of verbal intelligence as well as measurements of participant’s self-identified race and highest educational degree obtained. Verbal intelligence tests correlate at around .75 with full-scale IQ and so this …

The Progressive Need For Nurture

The nature versus nurture battle is scientifically over. Due to the cornucopia of research pouring out, it has become patently obvious that traits of all sorts are heritable (551 traits analyzed in this study). The study doesn’t just examine the heritability of intelligence, but a myriad of behaviors that constitute human nature. The recent attempt to push epigenetics was a rearguard action admitting the primacy of nature. The best approach the progressives have is denying biology by suppressing research, which is a possibility because progressive elites need nurture.

Racial Differences in Self Control

At its most basic level, self-control is the ability to not do something you want to do in pursuance of a more long term goal. Our need for self-control arises from the fact that, generally speaking, we prefer current rewards to future rewards.  For instance, if given the choice, most people would prefer to be given $1,000 today rather than a year from now. This is true of basically everyone: if the immediate and future reward are the same, our tendency is to choose the immediate reward. It’s when the future reward is greater than the immediate reward that self-control …

Human Biodiversity for Normies

5,572 words (long) This essay begins my introduction to one of the single most treacherous topics in modern political life. That topic is essentially a scientific one, rather than a political one—although in order to see this we may have to put some very prevalent philosophical and political misconceptions aside. As such, this series is going to be somewhat more dry in tone than some of my other writing. While it would be terribly easy to preach to the choir on this topic, my goal is to produce a series that could work to introduce liberals and “normies” (that’s what …

Republicans Are Smarter Than Democrats

A new study came out recently looking at whether Republicans or Democrats are smarter (1). It showed that republicans are smarter than democrats and that this is true even after taking race out of the picture. Unsurprisingly, this study isn’t receiving the kind of attention that studies exposing the intellectual inferiority of religious and/or racist people get.

Deconstructing “Racism”

Race and racism have become central to modern politics. Nearly every political question, no matter how trivial or benign, is turned into an issue of race. Leftists thrive on non-white identity politics, while conservatives typically avoid the issue. They often claim they are above it all and wish that their political opponents would simply stop racializing political issues. But this is never going to happen. Asking the Left to stop playing identity politics is comparable to asking one football team to quit scoring so many touchdowns because it is unfair to their opponents. Identity politics is a winning strategy for …

Why Most High-Achievers Are Men (& Why We Cannot Afford Sexual Egalitarianism)

Roderick Kaine Smart and SeXy: The Evolutionary Origins and Biological Underpinnings of Cognitive Differences between the Sexes London: Arktos Media, Ltd., 2016 Roderick Kaine, who has previously written for the neo-reactionary movement under the name Atavisionary, is an American trained as a biochemist. His first book, now available from Arktos, is both a genetically based explanation of cognitive differences between the sexes, and a demonstration that the economic and demographic costs of sexual egalitarianism will bring about the destruction of Western Civilization if that ideology is not abandoned. There are several well-established differences in cognitive functioning between men and women. …

The Wealth of Colonizers (or Lack Thereof)

One popular rhetorical attack on white countries is that their wealth is a product of exploiting other countries. Now one way to evaluate this is to look at the “colonized” countries and how they fared. But the Europeans-as-colonial-exploiters idea has another end of the equation—where the “exploitation” went. If the colonizers are exploiting all this wealth, there should be some wealth on the other end.

Ethnocentrism and Inbreeding

HBD Chick and I talk about how rates of historic inbreeding have had an important impact on the selective pressures acting on the traits of various peoples living today. We have often used Europe and the Middle East as examples of this, because strong regional variations in historic rates of inbreeding exist in those places. Particular among these variations is the history of Northwestern Europe, which had – unique in the world – a long history of avoiding inbreeding. As such, according to HBD Chick’s hypothesis, the region went down a unique historical trajectory because of it. But what do …

Race Mixing

There is a great swell of people pushing the idea of mixed-race people are “more fit” or “stronger” or “healthier”. The language they use for this new mixed race population is strangely belligerent, calling them “stronger” and “superior”. It seems to be a kind of mixed-race supremacism – distinct from the “folk” focus of racial nationalist groups – but with very little effort to find real data for their claims.

Progress: Science is Racist, Must be Abolished

Dem numbas an’ formulas be racys an’ shieet. Ain’t no nigga gon’ do dat. Some racists claim that once White civilization falls and is replaced by vibrants, humanity will plunge into a dark age of primitivism, rampant disease, brutal violence and so on. But they are once again proven wrong. In South Africa, one of the first places where the White man was thrown down from his throne, the Blacks are pushing for progress at scales never before seen. This is the future (and past?) of African tech. Get over it.

Gattaca is Wrong: The Moral & Evolutionary Case for Genetic Selection

Mark Field: Fun fact: Despite graduating from a prestigious University in the U.K (which will not be named) with the best possible grade, this essay nearly got me kicked off the course for being “monomaniacal” (admittedly Captain Ahab is a personal hero) “dog-whistling” and advocating the “most reprehensible means for improvement.” I had to fight bitterly against the PC police and the radical Marxist professors for an impartial marker.  Gattaca (1997) written and directed by Andrew Niccol is considered one of the ’90s best unheralded films acclaimed for its rigorous intelligence and moral backbone exploring ethical questions about the nature …

The Rational View on Race?

This is a critique of RationalWiki’s page on “racialism”. This response will be long, but that is only because RationalWiki commits an astonishing number of errors. RationalWiki begins by defining racialism as “the view that human races are substantially different from each other and these racial differences strongly determine the abilities and behavior of individuals and peoples.” This isn’t a horrible definition. But it is missing a few key facts. Human races are groups of people who share a common ancestry from certain pre-historic populations. Typically, we group people based on whether they mostly descend from the Americas, Africa, Asia, …

In Jesus’ Name

Does religion make blacks and Hispanics better citizens? W. Bradford Wilcox and Nicholas H. Wolfinger, Soul Mates: Religion, Sex, Love, and Marriage among African Americans and Latinos, Oxford University Press, 2016, 248 pp., $27.95. Soul Mates, by academic sociologists W. Bradford Wilcox and Nicholas H. Wolfinger, has one central message: Religious blacks and Hispanics lead more upright, family-oriented lives than their irreligious peers. The authors use an impressive array of statistics, along with personal interview data, to conclude that religion is associated with less violence, criminality, infidelity, and idleness, and with more civility, hard work, honesty, and monogamy.
